Clubs

Academic Decathlon is a national club and competition which tests one's ability in ten categories: art, economics, essay, interview, language and literature, mathematics, music, science, social science, and speech. This club will increase academic achievement in Hershey and create a team environment that is supportive and passionate. This club is a team competition.

The ACS Chemistry club is an official chartered chemistry club that allows students to experience chemistry beyond the classroom, connect with the broader chemistry community, develop leadership and communication skills, and explore study and career opportunities in science.  The club offers fun, hands-on activities, community service projects, and a chance to see how chemistry impacts your everyday life, all while fostering connections with other students and professionals in the field.

ACE is made up of affiliates that serve youth within a certain city or region.  Students meet once a week (Tuesday or Thursday evenings from 4:30-6:30 PM – October-March) with mentors at the DCTS in the professional or skilled trade areas.  Students are broken into teams and each team is set up to emulate an actual design team with students guided through a mock design project by their architect, engineer, and construction management mentors.  Students must apply prior to start of program online through the ACE website: https://www.acementor.org/. This club would contribute to the education of different cultures and diverse education techniques of Hershey High School. It would expand on many subjects not touched on in arts and humanities classes, specifically focusing on women of colour.

Art Club meets every Wednesday in Mrs. Spahr’s Room, Room 13 during ALL lunches. This is a great place for creatives to meet up and work on their own personal projects as well as group projects like murals and ceiling tiles for teachers in our building. In addition every first Thursday of the month, Art Club combines with Nexus Club to brainstorm our Nexus Arts Night that comes up every spring.

The goal of this club is to educate, inform, and empower students with the skills and confidence necessary to become responsible and dependable babysitters. Members will learn how to effectively market their services to gain business opportunities, ultimately building self-assurance and gaining valuable experience for future clients. The club will also provide guidance for handling challenging situations such as tantrums, minor accidents, and other common childcare scenarios. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to engage in a supportive community that fosters motivation and offers practical advice on the many responsibilities involved in babysitting.

The Broadcaster Club at Hershey High School is for both students who have taken journalism and those simply interested in journalism.  Our focus in on learning and experimentation with journalistic forms and technology.

Students in this club choose, design, and carry out an independent science fair project to enter in a regional science fair competition.  At the competition, participants display a poster board of their work and answer questions asked by a small group of judges.  The top three projects in the region advance to the International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) where they compete against the best projects from around the world.

The CARE Club grew out of the Covid 19 era in which four students wanted to start an educational club about how students could stay safe while still enjoying both the academic and extra-curricular parts of school. As time went on, the club evolved into a service-based group where members would volunteer to work with Hershey Cocoa Packs and also hold donation drives for local charities in Hershey and Harrisburg. Everyone is welcome to join the club. There is no dues and membership is always open to all, students and teachers alike.

The HHS Chess Club is open to all students in grades 9-12 and chess players of all skill levels. Our goal is to provide students with a fun, competitive, and engaging environment in which ti meet new people and improve in their ability to play the game of chess.

This program is designed to give students who are interested in pursuing a career in education or child care an opportunity to work with the teachers and children in the elementary, middle or high school.  Applications are available beginning in May and are completed online.  Placement is made in the fall of the year.  Students can work approximately 12 hours each quarter during their study halls, before or after school.  Students can earn ¼ credit for completion.

This is a great opportunity for students to get involved in their school and community while exploring their interests and helping others.  Eligible students may use volunteer hours and experiences for academic credit.

Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. DECA offers a variety of competition events in 3 broad categories: role-plays and case studies, prepared events, and online simulations. This club will allow students to gather after school to play a game that involves being creative, using critical thinking skills taught in many classes, and connecting with other students.

Envirothon is a team environmental science competition. Teams of five will complete in the following categories: Soils, Aquatics, Forestry, Wildlife and a Current Issue. The competition includes identification such as wildlife tracks or mounts, bird calls, skins to pelts, fish, macroinvertebrates, trees, soil textures and soil horizons as well as hands on investigations and general knowledge questions. The Epilepsy Awareness Club is dedicated to increasing understanding and support for those affected by epilepsy.  Through educational events, community outreach, and advocacy efforts, we hope to dispel myths and provide vital information about living with any form of seizure disorder. Our club also offers a supportive network for individuals and families, fostering connections and sharing resources for students and community members. By promoting awareness and empathy, we strive to create a more inclusive and informed community. We will hold our first Dash for Dravet 5K on Thanksgiving Day at Hershey High School.

At Hershey High School, Mini-THON Chairs and Committees prepare for the annual Mini-THON to benefit the Four Diamonds Fund. The fund exists solely for the benefit of children with cancer at the Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital. The primary purpose is to underwrite the cost of care not covered by insurance as well as other needs. HHS students are able to apply for director and committee positions in the spring of each school year for leadership positions in the following school year.

French Club at Hershey High School is made up of a group of students that are enthusiastic about the French language and the various francophone cultures of the world.  Students meet monthly to socialize and participate in activities related to French culture:  making crêpes, watching French films, holiday celebrations, taking a cooking class, visiting a museum, etc.  All are welcome!

French National Honor Society is a national organization made up of students who have demonstrated high academic achievement in French.  The charter of the Société Honoraire de Français expects members to encourage and support the study of the French language and culture.  Students host an exhibit at the local International Fair and go to the elementary school to teach a lesson about where French is spoken in the world.  Students must apply to be a part of this group.

FBLA - Future Business Leaders of America-is an educational association of student members preparing for careers in business or who are just simply interested in learning more about the free enterprise system. FBLA helps students develop leadership abilities, and prepare for entry into, and advancement within, a business or business-related occupation. Members must apply for membership and could compete at the regional, state and national level and also participate in a variety of activities.

Hershey Future Lawyers Association welcomes all who have an interest in the practice and execution of the law.  We explore aspects of the law and examine career possibilities in the legal profession.  All are welcome.

Created in 2014, the Garden Club of HHS uses eight raised beds just outside the school building.  A variety of fruits and vegetables are grown and donated to local food-providing organizations such as Gemma’s Angels, and our local Cocoa Packs.  Spring time is our busy season and there are summer requirements as well.

GSA (Gay/Straight Alliance) is a club that meets biweekly with the intent to give all students, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious background, and intellectual ability, a place to meet and discuss LGBTQ topics and issues.  In addition, the GSA organizes and participates in activities such as the Day of Equality, a yearly student leadership summit, and fundraising.

Healthcare Career Exploration Program (HCEP) introduces selected senior students each year to a variety of areas at the Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center.  It allows high school students the opportunity to interact with healthcare professionals in a real-work environment and to explore various healthcare professions.  Students who have demonstrated an interest in medical, science and related careers are targeted for this program. Students have an application for the school and one for the hospital to compete in the Spring of the school year prior. Hersey 3D intends to utilize 3D modeling and printing to help community members in need. It has partnered with Vision Resources to help design projects for the visually impaired.

The Hershey Community Youth Alliance works with students from Milton Hershey to create awareness about each other's schools through a day-long school exchange program.  We also hope to incorporate community fundraising events into the program.  If you are interested in being a part of this club, please complete contact Mrs. Ogle in Room 246 or Mr. Mackneer in Room 235.

The goal of this club is to donate female hygiene products to disadvantaged women. The focus on giving back to our community and to those in need is what creates productive, global citizens.

Hello everyone, welcome to the Hershey Volunteering Association (HVA).Our goal for the Hershey Volunteering Association is to connect students from Hershey High School who are interested in various fields with local Non-governmental/ Non-profit Organizations (NGOs) to provide students with hands-on experience through internships and volunteering opportunities. The club is low commitment with meetings held on the first Tuesday of every month. Our remind code is “hvahhs”, stay tuned for updates and information about our plans.

HHS Theatre offers three production opportunities during the year—a Fall Play, a Winter Musical, and a Spring Play. We value all of our participants equally, both those on-stage and those behind-the-scenes, recognizing the essential nature of every cast/crew member’s role in successfully bringing a work to the stage. We encourage all students who are interested in the many “roles” of live theater to join us as part of the HHS Theatre family.

HHS Humanities Club is a club that seeks to offer opportunities for all HHS students interested in the arts and humanities. This club is driven by student interests, but activities have included watching musicals, going to museums, and attending concerts and arts festivals. This club is open to all HHS students, and new members are always welcome.

The HHS Hockey Club is made up of student athletes from Hershey High School and welcomes players of all skill levels to the team. The HHS Hockey Club strives to develop the student athletes with the knowledge, skills, leadership, and sportsmanship in regard to high school level team oriented athletics. The HHS Hockey Club is a competitive program that plays a full schedule against other high schools in the region.

Our Jazz Ensemble program consists of a large "Big Band" and smaller Jazz Combo. All instruments are encouraged to audition, but instrumentation centers on traditional jazz instruments. These ensembles do not rehearse on the school day and are selected by audition. Wind and percussion players are selected by audition from the Concert Band classes; guitar, bass and piano players are also auditioned from outside the band program. Rehearsals take place outside the school day.

Hershey High School K-Pop Club is an enthusiastic group of students who learn choreography and dance routines, perform at events (i.e. the HCYA Talent Show), and talk about all things K-Pop. Our hope is to bring students together through Korean culture and inspire others to try new, exciting activities. We meet every Saturday via zoom at 3pm, and we encourage anyone who has an interest in K-Pop or a love for dance to bring a friend and join the fun!

Key Club is an international service organization established by Kiwanis International.  Students meet twice a month to discuss local, national and/or international service project opportunities.  Officers are elected during the prior school year to lead the club.  Students are encouraged to select the service opportunities in which they want to participate each month.  Parent Organization: Hershey-Hummelstown Kiwanis.

The Library Advisory Board aims to enhance the culture and physical environment of the library, which is a central learning commons in Hershey High School. Students in grades 9 – 12 gather input from peers to determine the student perspective about how to make the Library Advisory Board a transformative environment conducive to academic learning, inspired creation, social and club gatherings and various other flexible learning environment needs. The members work closely with the librarian.

The Marching Trojan band is an instrumental/visual ensemble that serves HHS and the community through performances at athletic and community events. Students attend band camp at HHS in August and regular weekly rehearsals through early November. Band camp, all performances and all rehearsals are mandatory. The course does not meet during the school day. Wind and percussion players are expected to participate in one of our concert bands.

This club will contribute to the mission of HHS by allowing students to explore branches of mathematics outside of the school curriculum and by cultivating an interest in math deep enough to extend outside of the classroom. This will allow students to reach greater potential as young mathematicians and future pioneers in STEM fields.

For students in Precalculus or higher, with a weighted average in their math courses of 93% or higher.  The students will attend monthly meetings to discuss various things including service activities.  Students must complete at least two math related service activities each year.

For students who love math and are seeking challenging math problems not usually done in a math course.  The team goes to various local colleges for different types of competitions.

Matthew 28:19 is a club for Christian fellowship at Hershey High School. The club meets Friday mornings from 7:10-7:30 a.m. for prayer, discussion and fellowship. Each year, the club runs the Operation Christmas Child shoebox drive to send Christmas gifts to kids around the world.

Media and Design Competition meets monthly and more frequently as the early spring competition arrives.  Students are supported in the development of a technology project that is entered into the competition.

Open to 9, 10, 11, 12 grades.

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an extra-curricular activity in which students typically roleplay delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. The club meets weekly to prepare to participate in several MUN conferences throughout the school year. Students interested in discussing international issues and improving their public speaking skills should consider joining MUN.

The goal of this club is to volunteer the time and talents of the high school musicians to the elementary school's band program. This club will help build bridges between our various programs, while also encouraging the youth to keep furthering their musical abilities. HS musicians will go to the elementary school once a week after school to mentor the students.

MSA purpose is to educate & spread awareness of Islam in a safe space that promotes diversity & combats stereotypes. Students from all backgrounds are invited to attend.

National Honor Society (NHS) is a prestigious group of 11th and 12th grade students who demonstrate outstanding Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. Students must apply for membership by completing a Membership Candidate Form. Once students are inducted into the Daniel E. Lewis Chapter, they participate in a variety of volunteer opportunities, thus serving their school and community.

Nexus is Hershey High School’s Literary Arts club. We are a group of students who are passionate about all forms of artistic expression, and we provide opportunities like open mics and Nexus Arts Night for our fellow students and teachers to demonstrate their artistic talents. Each year, we also publish our annual literary magazine that contains Hershey students' short stories, poetry, photography, graphic designs, and illustrations. We encourage anyone who loves the arts to join!

The mission of Operation Smile is to raise money and awareness for children who need access to cleft lip surgery. At our club meetings, we talk about potential fundraisers and ways we can spread awareness so that kids can have safe and affordable cleft lip surgery.

Students in this club choose, design, and carry out an independent science fair project to enter in a regional science fair competition.  At the competition, participants make a ten-minute oral presentation to a panel of judges during which they describe their work and results.  Students who earn first awards at the regional level are invited to compete at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science State Science Fair Competition, held at Penn State University’s State College Campus each May.

The main goal of this club is to provide challenging music opportunities for percussionists and other students that is an enrichment beyond their requirements for other music ensembles. Students will build fundamental musicianship skills and be exposed to repertoire that is standard in percussion ensemble settings.

PickleMasters Club (Pickleball) will offer chances to be physically active and get involved with extracurricular activities. It is non-competitive, and does not require a lot of commitment. This will be held in the HS Gym.

The mission of the HHS Powerlifting Team is to introduce male & female high school athletes to the sport of powerlifting.  The team provides student-athletes with an opportunity to learn how to safely compete in the squat, bench press and deadlift.  In addition to the core lifts, we teach how to properly supplement their training with accessory exercises and also how to take care of themselves with proper nutrition and rest.  We practice on Mon, Wed and Fri from 3:-5:30 pm Dec - April.

PULSE is the Penn State College of Medicine’s educational outreach program for high school students passionate about the biomedical sciences. The PULSE program is a semester long (Sept-Dec) program taught at the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center on Monday evenings from 4-6:30 PM. PULSE aims to cultivate interest in medicine, biomedical science, and healthcare systems science by introducing passionate learners to medical students, biomedical researchers, and practicing clinicians. This club helps spread awareness to racial, and religious discrimination in schools. This will help amplify minority voices and normalize student advocacy.

The Random Acts of Kindness Club grew out of an idea from two students who wanted “to make the world a better place, one good deed at a time.”  At our club meetings we share ideas for spreading friendship and good cheer throughout Hershey High School and in the community. Some of activities we have completed are:  writing thank you notes to our families, our teachers and our friends, Breakfast to DTPD.  We also made cards for the DTSD Building and Grounds Department and host our Lemon-aid stand.

Science Olympiad is a regional, state, and national science competition in which school-based teams of 15 students compete in 23 events across various science fields.  Each year, a portion of the events are rotated to reflect the ever-changing nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering, and technology. By combining events from all disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved.

The SNHS is an honor society that recognizes student achievement in science classes. A chapter membership to the Science National Honor Society is beneficial to students and schools as it promotes academic excellence, fosters a sense of community, enhances science education, and positively impacts students by providing recognition, networking opportunities, skill development, and avenues for community service.  To be eligible for Science NHS, students must be in grades 10 through 12 and must have completed or be currently enrolled in Chemistry. Students are expected to have achieved distinction in their scientific coursework and maintain strong academic performance. Specifically, they must have a minimum average of 89% in all current Honors science classes, 86% in all current AP science classes, and a 90% overall GPA. In addition, students must be enrolled in an Honors or AP science course such as Honors Biology, AP Biology, Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry, AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, or AP Environmental Science. Membership is contingent upon teacher recommendation and approval, and all students accepted into the society are required to pay a one-time $17 initiation fee.

The purpose of the Skin Care Awareness Club is to educate high school students on the importance of taking care of your skin and the dangers of following unhealthy habits demonstrated in the media today, which building long-lasting relationships. Club student meetings will be health bi weekly.

Hershey High School’s Spanish Club is a group of students who gather together to celebrate the language, customs and food of different Spanish-speaking cultures.The goal of Spanish Club is to not only have fun, but to also raise awareness about different cultures, through events like the annual International Fair, and also to make a positive impact on the lives of people around the world, through fundraising projects like the Pulsera Project.

The Spanish National Honor society recognizes high achievement in Spanish. Students must apply for membership during their junior or senior year. Members of the society assist with tutoring lower level Spanish students and also participate in community service projects.

Stitched! would be a club dedicated to knitting and crocheting. Open to anyone with any level of experience in knitting. Anything made using donated yarn or yarn bought with club funds will be donated to the Penn State Health Children's Hospital.

Club members will learn what the stock market is, how it works, and how to invest. The club will be using Webull app for paper trading stocks. There is no real money involved. This teaches students how to make good decisions when investing without the fear of losing real money.

The Tri-M Music Honor Society is a program of the National Association for Music Education(NAfME), which focuses on creating future leaders in music education and music advocacy. Tri-M is the only music honor society for junior/middle school and high school students in the country. Tri-M recognizes students that have gone above and beyond musically. Tri-M also provides students leadership opportunities to make a difference in their community through music-based service projects.

Student Athlete Outreach is a group of students at HHS working to increase awareness about the various sports teams in our school. Over the years at HHS, we have seen participation in sports decrease. We are trying to counteract this by introducing and encouraging students to not only participate in these programs but to come support our classmates as well. Go Trojans!!!

Student Council representatives are elected to work with teachers and the administration on behalf of the student body.  Representatives from each grade also plan school activities like Homecoming and contribute to charitable activities in the school and community.  Student Council members are elected in the spring for the following school year.

The goal of the club is to engage all students to achieve their greatest potential by providing important information to help them live their best life.  The club meets once a month with a different speaker each meeting.  The topics range from managing stress and anxiety, sports medicine, to understanding financial responsibilities.  All students are welcome!

This club is to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for 1:1 friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD)

The Trojan Trading Post, established in 2009, is a school store located at Hershey High School in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Students operate and market the various products for the store.  100% of the profit from the Trojan Trading Post goes toward the Trojan Trading Post Scholarship Fund, which is given to a senior student pursuing business at the college level. Over $8,000 in scholarships has been awarded to date.

The Women in STEM club (HHS WiSTEM) aims to foster a community of students who are interested in furthering diversity and inclusivity in STEM. The club, open to all genders, organizes high school level STEM programs, such as competitions and after school coding courses (Girls Who Code curriculum and activities), provides resources from women in STEM organizations (SWENext), provides networking opportunities with a variety of women across many fields, creates a space where students can collaborate on common goals, and carries out a variety of outreach programs for young girls.

The Writing Club will help HS students with an interest in writing to learn and grow in the subject, which will improve the students’ writing assignments in school. Writing also gives students a chance to expand their creativity. Writing is a way to practice thinking creatively, with various strategies, sentence combinations, ways of compiling events into novels or essays, different types of writing and more.

Yearbook Do you like writing articles, taking pictures, or creating pages that tell a story?  If so, the yearbook club is for you.  We are responsible for creating the yearbook for the Hershey High School each year.  The club uses software such as ImagoFlo, Studio Works, and Picassa to create a book that tells the story for each year at Hershey High School.  This book is treasured by all and will be looked at over and over again as graduates look back at their high school careers.

Young Life at Hershey High School is a Christian ministry that builds authentic relationships with students. Our club creates a welcoming community where students feel known and cared for, helping them grow in their faith journey while providing positive mentoring and support.

Young Democrats seek to engage young democrats in the pursuit and implementation of the values and principles of the Democratic Party. Through outreach, educational activities and advocacy, the Hershey Young Democrats will promote the ideals of the Democratic Party, and lend its support to those candidates and members who exhibit the highest standards of integrity and conviction. The Hershey Young Democrats will work incessantly to empower Hershey residents and the community through its alliance.

These political clubs are available to the students of Hershey High in order to encourage civic participation.  Students have the ability to discuss current issues, debate political issues and participate in community, county, state and national elections.  These organizations also promote and support the actions and activities of outside organizations I.e League of Women Voters, Dauphin County Republican Committee.

The Youth & Government Club is a student-led, student run mock government experience that teaches democracy to middle & high school students through hands-on experiences. Culminating in a state-wide conference at the Pennsylvania Capitol building in Harrisburg in April, Youth & Government encourages students to gain a deeper understanding of civic engagement. Hershey’s YAG delegation meets every Thursday from 6-7:30 pm.
